About SPARK

Welcome to SPARK Learning Centre

The SPARK Education Learning Centre provides one-to-one teaching weekdays 9 am to 3 pm to support pupils who are experiencing difficulties in mainstream education, particularly focusing on excluded pupils.  Our Centre provides a vital service to local schools, parents and pupils as one of the only non profit making institutions available to help pupils who are struggling with their schooling, for whatever reason, to achieve their potential.  In addition, outside school times (afterschool, weekends and holidays) the centre acts as a community learning resource for a range of learning needs, providing one-to-one tutoring to support the less able and challenge the "Gifted and Talented" and to support 5-19 year olds in all CORE curriculum subjects from Key stage 1 to A/L.  The Centre also provides local schools with qualified and experienced cover teaching staff  in case of emergencies, illness, trips and courses, as well as home tutoring.

Our students are those who are unable to attend mainstream school or who may be in school BUT at risk of exclusion.  We also have experience in working with Looked-after Children, students at home or in hospital, with an ideal way to continue their studies by providing them with a positive, flexible learning experience. We deliver cost-effective education that enables young people to gain core qualifications and expand their employment or further education opportunities. At SPARK Education Learning Centre “One-to-One" teaching offers a fresh approach to support challenging young people, where conventional classroom teaching has failed ”

We have a commitment and belief in the ethos that pupils should be offered a second chance to engage in and enjoy their education, and we believe that this second chance can be a vital turning point in a pupil's life. Our staff do everything they can to support students during their time at the Centre, regardless of how challenging that process might be.

Please take some time to explore our website and find out more about SPARK Education Learning Centre’s unique, fresh approach to delivering one-to-one education. All our staff are committed to provide pupils (whether LDD or Gifted & Talented) with the best possible opportunities to develop their ability and realise their full potential, by offering one-to-one tuition and user friendly ICT learning resources in a calm, quiet and stimulating environment.

With our affordable prices, one-to-one Tuition at our centre is at a fraction of typical home tuition costs!  This is our way of addressing the crunch for our community - education at the heart of the community.

Our Mission Statement

SPARK EDUCARE provides educationtion services to the local community, complementing statutory mainstream provision for children and adualts. By adopting an appropriate personal, One-to-One approach, we aim to fulfil the educational potential of our clients and to enhance social and community participation by raising self-esteem and confidence through a broad programme of innovative learning experiences.

'Every Child Matters' - The Heart Of Our Agenda

During the last three years staff at SPARK have gained valuable experience in the local community which has helped us to understand and respond to the particular educational needs of families and schools in this area.  From our professional experience, we are aware of the problems which mainstream educators can face in either integrating or re-integrating the pupil who has become disenchanted with school.  The main aim of our Centre is to address this issue in a calm, quiet and friendly environment, offering encouragement and individual support.

Our range of teaching and learning packages is designed to complement school work and to instil in young people a recognition of the importance of learning and, therefore, a desire to learn, by offering a flexible and affordable service.  At the same time, we are aware of the need to stretch the 'Gifted and Talented pupil'.  We offer such pupils the opportunity for extra tuition and support where needed.  With these objectives in mind, we run a Homework Club/Study Club where pupils can catch up on school work and stretch their abilities under supervised conditions and generally gain the extra help and encouragement they may need.

One of our next major objectives is to extend our services by establishing links with local businesses, thereby providing work experience and job opportunities for NEETs.  Majority of these students have been out of mainstream for long periods and struggle with core curriculum subjects.  Hence, we provide the necessary Basic Skills for Life programme to enable them gain some qualifications before they turn post 16.

We are already liaising with various companies with a view to setting up partnerships of this kind.
