Types Of Tuition

Spark* education recruitment has been serving schools since August 2006. We have on many occasions been contacted by parents keen to locate a private tutor to help their child with their studies. In some cases to aid them pass a particular examination such as the 11+, GCSE or A level. In response to this we have decided to extend the service we provide to schools to private individuals keen to help their children.

We offer tutoring in a range of subject areas and on a range of levels as follows:

  • 1-2-1 Tutoring

  • Daily Tutoring

  • After School Tutoring & Homework

  • Homework Club

  • Weekly Tutoring

The SPAAK approach to tutoring

TO PROVIDE APPROPRIATE PERSONAL SUPPORT TO CHILDREN who are struggling in mainstream school

Many of the problems pupils have with learning/progressing are caused by poor understanding of some of the basic ideas and techniques. Sometimes too little time was spent on early learning – the alphabet, number tables, spellings, handwriting, etc.  Sometimes pupils missed some early work through absence.

Often a pupil's understanding is good in most of the early work, but the ‘gaps’, the small things that they do not fully understand or have forgotten due to inadequate practice/revision, cause problems in later work.

To remedy this, we at the SPAAK Learning centre go right back to the basics and go through all the simple ideas and techniques that pupils ought to know. Much of it they will be able to do already, but there will be little things that they are unsure about and need to get sorted. Also, going back over the basics that they already understand is a memory-jogger which will help when tackling the more difficult techniques in higher level work.

Every session of tutoring at the Centre starts with a short mental arithmetic test.  The aim is to find weak and unknown “gaps” in techniques that students ought to know and fill them, hence boosting self-confidence as well as improving mental arithmetic expertise.  After each level is completed, the pupil can move to the next level of test, which will include new skills/techniques.

Centre Tuition

Tuition at the  SPARK Learning Centre
Standard day time tutoring services for 'not at school' pupils, excluded pupils, new arrivals to the Reading area and pupils with special educational needs, which encompasses a broad range of learning difficulties which affect a child’s learning style.

These needs can be broken down into the following three specific areas:
  i)  Social, emotional and behavioural disorders – such as Aspergers Syndrome and autism
ii)  Sensory Impairments – such as hearing and visual impairments
iii)  Learning Difficulties – such as dyslexia and Downs Syndrome

The SPARK Learning Centre provides education for pupils aged between 5 and 19 during normal school hours (term time) who are:
a)  Struggling in their mainstream placement, or
b)  New to the Reading area, or
c)  Out of mainstream education, for whatever reason.

In addition, we offer support outside school term times - after school, at weekends and during school holidays.  An example of this service is our homework club, which is run after school in small groups, complementing school work and encouraging children's progress by maintaining an individual Learning Record Sheet in order to monitor progress.

By providing one-to-one tuition in a calm, quiet environment helping children of all ages are helped to catch up in all core subjects and prepare for selection tests into grammar schools.
